…..but it was a promise I just couldn’t keep.
I can’t imagine waking up in the morning and heading off to a school where Mr. Evans won’t be teaching me. Although most teachers do just that, teach, Mr. Evans was something different. Something more. He was a mentor, a role model, and like a father to me. He taught me to be who I am, to love who I am, and to bring out the confidence in myself. Without him, my high school experience would have been even worse than it already was. I had something to look forward to.
He was so grateful for everyone, so thankful for his students. I’ll never forget how one of my little drawings would make him happy, and how he’d laminate them and put them on his wall like they were created by some famous artist. I always wanted to surprise him, to give him the only thing a student really could: dedication and devotion. I’ll never forget how hard he tried to bring the ideal education to all his students, or how he managed to make everyone feel like a star in their own skin.
He had so much love and confidence in his students. His smile and humor lit up the room, and despite whatever hardships transpired in his life, he never frowned upon a student, neglected them or made them feel less worthy.
He’s a beautiful man, and the one teacher I actually felt comfortable talking to, and he will be missed more than imaginable.
I promised myself I wouldn’t cry, but when we took the steps of our final dance in Journalism, I just couldn’t take it. I don’t want to say goodbye to him. I know it sounds cheesy, but the last two years with him have been wonderful.
It’s only been two years, but he’s changed my life forever.

Even though you’ll never read this, we all love you, Mr. Evans. If anything, you’ve certainly changed my life for the better.
